Make Your Home Smell Like the Holidays

Pleasant scents can instantly evoke positive feelings or set a mood.  To quickly fill your home with the holiday spirit, try one or more of these fragrant ways:

Stovetop simmer pot – in saucepan or small Crock-pot add: water, cinnamon sticks, apple peels, star anise, orange rinds and whole cloves, simmer on lowest heat.

Make dry potpourri – Add 10 to 15 drops of essential oil(s) like peppermint, fir, cinnamon, or citrus to one tablespoon of water in small spray bottle, spritz the potpourri ingredients on a baking tray. Dry the potpourri in oven for at least two hours at 200 degrees

Turn on an essential oil diffuser – mix holiday scents for a custom blend (peppermint, evergreen, fir, cinnamon, citrus)

Bake cookies – then bake another batch for friends or neighbors

Light a candle – choose your favorite holiday scent

Decorate with a live Christmas tree or fresh evergreen garland

Buy some Scentsicles (fragrant tree ornaments) and place on the tree and around the house

Make mulled wine or cider – delicious and fragrant to enjoy during a cozy night in

  1. I use my diffuser year round, it makes the house smell inviting and lifts my spirits. I hadn’t thought to combine my essential oils to make a custom scent, thanks for the great tip! I’m enjoying it more than ever now!
